Man with good intentions bitten by police dog

4:28 pm on 20 May 2010

A member of the public is in Auckland Hospital after being bitten by a police dog.

Police were trying to apprehend two people in a Subaru Forester stolen from Middlemore Hospital. They laid road spikes on Rosebank Rd, Avondale, at just after 12.30pm on Thursday and, moments later, the stolen car crashed into three others.

Police say it appears the vehicle swerved after hitting the spikes and veered into the other cars.

A police dog was used to track the offenders but instead bit the leg of man who stepped in to help. The injury is not thought to be serious.
