A 15-year-old Gisborne boy has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an 18-year-old youth was allegedly bottled in an incident in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It happened on a street corner in the suburb of Mangapapa.
The injured youth needed 44 stitches to repair the damage to one side of his face, after he was hit with a bottle.
A spokesman for the Gisborne CIB says the altercation was sparked by an argument over a girlfriend.
The 15-year-old has been bailed to appear in court next week.
