Wednesday's headlines: Chinese company seeking dairy farms in North Island; civil proceedings against two former Cabinet ministers being taken by Securities Commission; taxi driver attacked in Christchurch.

The New Zealand Herald reports planning has started for a giant tent to be erected on Queens Wharf for the Rugby World Cup on the site of one of two 98-year-old cargo sheds, both of which will be demolished

Also on the front page: talkshow host Michael Laws has been taking heat from his radio colleagues for driving with an unrestrained child.

Fellow Radio Live presenters John Tamihere and Willie Jackson have spoken to him about an instant fine received over the weekend. The paper says Mr Laws was pulled over with an unbuckled child on the lap of his front seat passenger.

The Dominion Post reports two former Cabinet ministers are the latest finance company directors to appear in court accused of misleading investors.

The Securities Commission has filed civil proceedings in the High Court at Wellington against former justice minister and attorney-general Sir Douglas Graham and former justice minister Bill Jeffries, as well as fellow directors Lawrence Bryant and Michael Reeves.

In what's being described as 'extreme form of neglect,' a baby has been taken into care after his father left him alone in a car, while visiting a strip club in Wellington.

The Press reports a taxi driver is recovering after being punched and choked into unconsciousness during an attack on Sunday.

South Christchurch residents opposed to a probation centre gathered on Tuesday to criticise a project they say has been foisted on them without consultation.

The Otago Daily Times says a Chinese-backed company seeking to buy 29 North Island dairy farms, is also trying to buy up to 100 farms in Otago and Southland and build a dairy factory in Southland.

Although it's too soon to say if the Carisbrook rugby ground will be sold, Dunedin City Councillors are pictured visiting the site on what Mayor Peter Chin says was a "walking familiarisation tour of various parcels of property".
