Two teenage girls have been arrested following the armed robbery of a taxi driver in Hamilton.

Police say the pair, aged 15 and 16, used a sharpened weapon to rob the driver of $10 at about 1.30am on Wednesday.

They are charged with aggravated robbery and are to appear in the Hamilton Youth Court.

Inspector Rob Lindsay says it was not the only violent incident involving teenage girls in Hamilton overnight.

He says two others beat and robbed a woman, aged 18, on Ward Street at about 9.30pm.

They will also appear in court on Wednesday.
