Weta Workshop has unveiled its design for a Wellington statue to commemorate the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The filmmaker has submitted its concept to the city council, along with a price tag of $350,000.

A scale model of the proposed statue, at an estimated final cost of $350,000, was displayed at Weta's Miramar studios on Monday.

It draws heavily on the architecture and blustery conditions of the capital, and also represents the line-out phase of a rugby match.

Weta Workshop's Richard Taylor says a final site has yet to be decided on.

Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast was at the presentation and says she likes the sculpture.

She says public opinion will feature heavily in the council's final decision on whether to commission the piece.
