Power back on in Wellington CBD

6:06 pm on 9 March 2010

Power has been restored to about 1200 customers affected by a power cut in parts of central Wellington on Tuesday afternoon.

The back-up generator at Parliament had to be used twice after the main supply failed.

The Statistics New Zealand building on the waterfront and Wellington Railway Station were also affected.

A spokesperson for Wellington Electricity Lines says the fault was caused by an underground cable fault.

It says the fault was repaired shortly before 5pm.
