Wananga being held for arts advisers

3:06 pm on 26 February 2010

More than 100 artists are expected at Te Mahurehure marae in Auckland this weekend for a wananga put on by Toi Whenua, an umbrella group for arts advisers from councils in the region.

Auckland City Council Maori manager Eynon Delamere says the wananga allows Maori artists to share ideas and concepts, and hear from established practitioners like Fred and Brett Graham and Lisa Reihana.

Whatever materials they use, he says there is a common thread in Maori art: all are steeped in whakapapa.

Waatea News reports the wananga will also hear from Te Puni Kokiri Rugby World Cup manager Paora Ammunson on how Maori artists can market their work to international visitors.
