Maori Dance company Atamira is to begin the year with a showcase of works by its younger dancers and choreographers.

The performance is on the first weekend of March at the Corban Estate in Henderson.

Executive director Moss Patterson told Waatea News the Hou showcase will introduce dance audiences to newcomers like Gaby Thomas and Nancy Wijohn, who use contemporary dance to explore their whakapapa and identity in urban Auckland.

Atamira will also take two new works, Memoirs of Active and Taonga, to a performing arts market in Wellington next month and at other such markets in Tokyo.
