Two South Island men have been awarded bravery medals by the Royal Humane Society for their actions in saving the lives of others.
Mack Pouwhare of Blenhiem and Allan Maxted of Amberly were both the first to attend accidents near their homes in 2008.
Mr Pouwhare was able to save three infants from electrocution and rescue an injured woman, while Mr Maxted pulled a man from a burning car which later exploded.
The Royal Humane Society of New Zealand has awarded more than 2000 bravery awards in the past 112 years.
Tuesday's ceremony was held in Christchurch, with medals presented by Governer-General Sir Anand Satynand.
