Text messaging has saved two trampers who got trapped in the Ruahine ranges near Napier.
The police say the pair, a man and a woman, texted a friend saying they were stuck on a slip-face and needed help.
The Napier police say they were alerted and texted the trampers to find out their exact location and whether or not they were hurt before sending a helicopter.
They say it was easy to rescue the pair because they were well equipped.
