The Crown Law Office has rejected claims that the Christchurch Arts Centre Trust's board is acting illegally by supporting a music conservatorium at the centre.
The Save Our Arts Centre Society opposes plans by Canterbury University and Christchurch City Council, to build a music conservatorium at the arts centre.
The development is supported by the arts centre board.
The society claimed the board was breaching its trust deed and asked the Solicitor-General to step in.
The Crown Law Office has found the board has acted within its powers.
