Two men have been charged with burglary in Christchurch after police found their Mazda 323 hatchback loaded with 58 dozen bottles of beer.

Police say the car weighed so much it was running on its springs when the pair, aged 23 and 26, were stopped on Friday night on Opawa Road.

It is alleged that the Miller beer was stolen from a warehouse. Another 33 dozen was discovered at a nearby house.
