Canterbury Regional Council is warning that the Waitaki and Rangitata rivers could flood on Saturday evening.
MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for the South Canterbury high country.
Duty flood controller Tony Henderson says this includes the Waitaki and Rangitata river catchments, which are already drenched by two lots of heavy rain this week.
People near the rivers are advised to beware of rapidly rising water levels.
