Fire crews almost done in Roxburgh

12:59 pm on 2 January 2010

Fire crews in Roxburgh are nearly finished dampening down hotspots at the scene of a bushfire on the edge of the town.

The Fire Service was called to the blaze at about 8pm on Friday.

One house was burned down and a number of others had to be evacuated.

Roxburgh chief fire officer Dave Rooney says weather conditions are extremely dry in central Otago.

He says crews are continuing to dampen down any flare-ups and a helicopter will be kept on standby for the rest of the day.

In Nelson, firefighters doused a large scrub fire in the residential area of Toi Toi on Friday afternoon.
