Residents anxious over Basin Reserve plan

9:59 am on 2 November 2009

Residents in the Wellington suburb of Mt Victoria are accusing the Transport Agency of a dull silence on plans for a large roading project in their neighbourhood.

Locals had expected to be included in early planning for the proposed Basin Reserve Flyover, but are increasingly anxious that they are being left in the dark.

The connection would form part of the highway between Levin and Wellington, which has been designated as a road of national significance.

Mt Victoria Residents Association president Jessica Closson says locals are apprehensive and she fears token consultation could mean they are railroaded into a decision.

In a statement, the Transport Agency says it will begin engaging with stakeholders this week on the scope of the Basin improvements project, leading to full public consultation by May next year.
