Police are investigating the disappearance of 30 war medals from Te Awamatu Museum.
Waipa District Council museum manager Jan White says they vanished over a 20 year period, but the museum only realised when one was put up for sale in New York.
The medal was bought by an Auckland war medal collector, who then sold it to the local RSA who plan to give it back to the museum in a ceremony on Armistice Day.
