Muriwai Beach speed limit enforced

11:06 am on 26 October 2009

The Auckland Regional Council is cracking down on vehicle safety at Muriwai Beach over Labour weekend following deaths and injuries to both drivers and other beach users.

The council and the police are enforcing the 30 km/h speed limit between the Coast Road access point and the Okiritoto Stream, and the 60 km/h speed limit from there on.

The Muriwai Park manager, Scott De Silva, says as well as preventing injury, the aim is also to stop damage to the environment and dunes.
