The Royal New Zealand Air Force is helping a search for three teenagers missing in the Bay of Plenty.

The group has been missing for more than 24 hours after going pig-hunting on horseback in the Ruatoki valley.

The RNZAF says the teenagers were lightly clad with no overnight equipment.

An Iroquois helicopter was dispatched from Ohakea air base at 7am on Tuesday to assist the search.

Squadron leader Kavae Tamariki says search teams are being dropped into the area.
