Police in Hamilton are stepping up their investigation into the death of an 18-year-old-man in hospital on Friday.
The teenager had been caught up in an altercation involving several people on 6 August.
He was one of two people to receive stab wounds.
The other man is recovering from his injuries.
The 18-year-old died while being operated on, a day after being admitted to Waikato hospital, one week after the incident.
A post mortem was held on Saturday and those results are expected this week.
The young man's name is yet to be released.
The matter has been referred to the coroner for investigation.
