Northland boaties win on council fee

9:51 pm on 1 August 2009

Northland boaties are chalking up a small victory in a battle with bureaucracy.

The Northland Regional Council has abandoned efforts to collect a $25 licence fee from mooring-holders.

The council introduced the fee seven years ago to try to recover some of the costs of maintaining ramps and jetties, but has had little success collecting the money.

It says the cost of collecting the fee coupled with resistance from boaties has convinced it to drop the idea.
