Minor injuries after hang-glider hits cliff

9:59 pm on 31 July 2009

A man was taken to hospital on Friday after his hang-glider hit a cliff near Piha Beach, west of Auckland.

The police say the glider crashed at White Beach, about 2km from Piha, shortly after 5pm.

It was left perched precariously halfway up the cliff-face.

The 40-year-old man freed himself from the wreckage and made his way to the bottom of the cliff, where he was picked up by a helicopter and taken to Waitakere Hospital with minor injuries.
