The condition of a teenager found beaten in a central Christchurch street improved on Sunday, although he remained in intensive care.
The 18-year-old man was discovered about 7am on Friday by a caretaker in Gloucester Street near Chancery Arcade.
Detective Sergeant Leairne Dow said on Sunday the condition of the teenager, who suffered serious head injuries, was improving and she hoped police would be able to speak with him in the next couple of days.
Detective Sergeant Dow said while a few witnesses have come forward to police, progress is slow and police still want to speak to anyone who may have any information about what happened.
The teenager's family had been maintaining a vigil at his bedside.
