The session has 25 people attending from around the country.

The workshop at Pukemokimoki Marae covers running a successful campaign and good governance tools in the lead up to the 2022 elections.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council councillor Hinewai Ormsby is one of the wānanga organisers.

She said the session helps candidates running for any council, from community boards to regional councils, with the aim of giving them skills to win elections, so there is greater Māori representation.

Ormsby said it is critically important that local council's have a strong kaitiaki voice to help solve problems and shape a bright future.
