Dunedin knitwear receivership puts 40 jobs at risk

The company that saved Dunedin's Tamahine Knitwear business from closure has itself been placed into receivership, putting more than 40 jobs at risk.

Algie Agencies Ltd bought Tamahine Knitwear in May last year, and retained 22 of the manufacturer's 50 staff.

The receiver, Deloitte's Michael Horne, says it's too early to say if any of Algie's employees will lose their jobs.

He says he's still examining the paperwork, and should have a better idea of the state of the company's finances next week.

Most of Algie's employees work at the Tamahine Knitwear factory in Kaikorai Valley, or at a South Dunedin distribution depot.
