Taranaki authorities have fenced off an area of a New Plymouth playground where toxins were found last month, but say the move has nothing to do with chemicals.
Contaminated soil was removed from Marfell Park, after rusted out drums containing insecticide and dioxin were unearthed during excavations.
Taranaki Regional Council says it advised the New Plymouth District Council that the area is still a workplace and must be secured, as large holes remain in the ground. Contractors put up a fence on Thursday.
Some residents say the regional authority initially concealed the extent of the toxic chemicals found at the site.
But the council denies that, and held a meeting on Thursday night with concerned community groups to discuss the park
