Masked men rob Addington bar

6:11 am on 21 June 2009

Christchurch police are investigating what they describe as the brazen armed robbery of an Addington bar early on Saturday morning.

Staff and customers at the Bedrock Bar were confronted by three masked men, armed with a pistol, a knife and a tyre iron, just after the bar had closed at 3am on Saturday.

The trio locked staff and patrons in the bottle store before making off with alcohol, cigarettes and up to $10,000 in cash.

Detective Sergeant Scott Anderson says the robbers had been lying in wait at the rear of the bar.

He says the men, described as Maori or Pacific Islanders in their late teens or twenties, appeared disorganised and spent about 20 minutes in the bar during the course of the robbery.

Police are calling for anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.
