The Catholic Church says it has apologised to the author of a new book about her experiences at church-run orphanages.
Say Sorry by Ann Thompson is to be issued on Monday.
Ms Thompson was placed at St Joseph's Orphanage in Christchurch in 1941 when she was two months old and moved to Nazareth House 10 years later.
She claims she was physically and mentally abused by the nuns in charge of the orphanages, and sexually abused by a priest.
In 2001, she made settlements with the two Catholic orders which ran the homes.
Despite this, the new book continues a battle to have the Catholic Church admit unconditional responsibility.
But Bishop Barry Jones of Christchurch says the diocese has already apologised.
He says Mrs Thompson received a formal letter of apology at the time of the settlement and another two years ago.
