A gas leak near Auckland City Hospital has been isolated and the Fire Service is allowing people who were moved from their homes to return.

Fire crews had sprayed water into the air to disperse the gas from a ruptured main on Park Rd on Monday morning.

The Fire Service says Vector gas technicians were working on the problem on Monday afternoon and Park Rd has re-opened to the public.

People at the hospital were not at risk, because the wind was blowing the fumes in the opposite direction.
