The power is back on to all but 10 of the 270 households in the Wellington suburb of Makara which were cut off when strong winds caused a network fault.
The fault affected the majority of the Karori area.
Lines company Wellington Electricity says power was back on for most of the 2500 affected customers before 9am on Friday but crews struggled to restore power to 270 Makara households.
All but ten of those houses now have power and Wellington Electricity expects the rest will have power restored by midday on Friday.
High winds around the Wellington region have prompted a warning for the Rimutaka Hill road.
Metservice says high-sided vehicles and motorcycles should avoid the road.
Police are asking motorcyclists across the Wellington region to use another means of transport today.
