Whare to be built in new mental health unit

The Northland District Health Board is to include a whare in its acute mental health unit as part of a $25 million hospital upgrade.

Mental health general manager Sue Wyeth says 48% of patients in the unit are Maori and a culturally friendly environment will help patients and whanau.

Waatea News reports the new 25 bed unit is due to be completed in 12 months.
