Greymouth Petroleum is shifting the route of a gas pipeline in Taranaki after a standoff with Maori.
The preferred option of the oil and gas company was through a hill on the Waitara River which the Otaraua hapu says is sacred.
Their opposition led to a blockade of the drilling site by protestors last month.
Greymouth Petroleum has now announced it will shift to an alternative site, which skirts the hill.
