Auckland City Council has increased its cemetery fees by 25%, to $1917
Acting chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee, Toni Millar, says the increase will compensate for Consumer Price Index adjustments since the fees were last raised in 2001.
She says it will align the city's cemetery fees with other local and national cemeteries of a similar size.
The increase will apply to the three cemeteries on the Auckland isthmus and the one on Waiheke Island.
Councillor Cathy Casey says the council should wait until the Auckland super-city is formed before amending the fees.
