Norovirus problems easing in Palmerston North

8:24 pm on 13 April 2009

Problems caused by a gastroenteritis bug that has closed parts of Palmerston North Hospital are reported to be easing.

Over the past three weeks, 89 staff and 53 patients have been struck with norovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

Two medical wards have been closed to admissions and patients were only discharged if they were going to private homes.

MidCentral Health says those wards are still closed, but the situation is under control, with the number of new cases slowing down.
