Two teenagers injured when the car they were in fled from the police early on Friday morning are recovering well in Auckland Hospital.
A 14-year-old was killed in the crash in the West Auckland suburb of Titirangi and the car's driver is facing a number of charges.
The two injured boys, both aged 15, were initially in a critical condition but are now described as stable.
Police say the crash happened 47 seconds into a police pursuit when the car crashed at an intersection, after officers spotted the boys driving a stolen car.
Court appearance
The driver, 15, suffered minor injuries and appeared in Waitakere District Youth Court on Friday.
The youth, who has name suppression, was charged with reckless driving causing death, failing to stop for red and blue flashing lights, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and an alternative charge of receiving.
He was released on bail to reappear in court next week.
An internal police investigation has begun into the pursuit and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been advised.
