Police have finally decided on a suitable bail address for an Upper Hutt man charged with rape, after he was initially bailed to a location just 13 houses from his alleged victim's home.
The man appeared in Upper Hutt District Court on Friday morning and nominated an alternative address, but following subsequent police checks it was also deemed unsuitable.
The 20-year-old was then remanded to Lower Hutt District Court where a judge heard from the accused's lawyer and the alleged victim's family before proposing a new bail address.
Upper Hutt police area commander Warwick Burr says the suggested address was then investigated by police CIB and confirmed as a suitable location.
The 20-year-old faces four charges over the alleged rape and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.
