Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man suffering gunshot wounds died in Wairoa Hospital.

The 29-year-old arrived at the hospital shortly after 7pm on Tuesday, and later died.
Police said they had identified a scene of interest in the Mohaka Village and this was under guard.
A forensic examination was due to be carried out today.
Police said they would like to hear from any members of the public in the Mohaka area who may know about the incident.
