Police are appealing for witnesses after a man with a gunshot wound checked himself into Timaru Hospital early this morning.

The 26-year-old went to the hospital just before 2am with a single gunshot wound to his lower body.
The injury was not life threatening and the man has since been discharged.
Police said they were investigating and wanted to talk to anyone who may have information.
