Police are treating the death of a teenager in a hit-and-run incident in the Bay of Plenty town of Murupara as a homicide.
Jordan Herewini, 16, was run down on his own property by a stolen vehicle. The driver did not stop.
He died from head injuries while on the way to hospital.
Police say indications are that the young man and his family were mistakenly identified by members of the Mongrel Mob as associates of the Tribesmen Gang.
They say there have been a number of incidents between the two groups before and since the death.
