A group of Canterbury artists plan to camp by the Waimakariri River to highlight concerns over a controversial water project.
The $400 million Central Plains Water scheme would take enough water from the Rakaia and Waimakiriri rivers to irrigate 60,000 hectares of farmland.
A decision on the scheme's resource consent is expected in April or May.
In March, the artists will camp at a site where they say the Waimakariri River will be turned into a concrete canal if the scheme goes ahead.
Organiser Jane Zusters says the group will sketch and photograph the area for an exhibition.
