Firefighters spent the night checking for hot spots at an Auckland school where flames tore through three buildings yesterday.

About 100 firefighters worked on the fire at Auckland Normal Intermediate, in the inner city suburb of Mt Eden, but they had problems getting into the burning roof cavities.
The fire started in the roof of one building and spread to two others.
It was contained by 9.30pm and two standby crews kept watch overnight. One crew is keeping watch today.
The cause of the fire isn't yet known but fire investigators are looking into the cause.
Classes resume next week and the school said it was investigating the extent of the damage.
The fire charred the last remaining old buildings at the school - the hall, the music block and specialist classrooms.
Only staff were there at the time and no one was injured.
