Almost 2500 vehicle owners who had their cars checked by Patrick Ah Wong at Super Cheap Tyres and Auto Services in St Johns will now be contacted.

A review found that Mr Ah Wong was not properly inspecting vehicle interiors, seat belts, lighting systems and brakes.

The Transport Agency said Mr Ah Wong has a long history of non-compliance.

All affected vehicle owners will be contacted about their re-inspection options.

While the Transport Agency was unaware of specific concerns relating to individual vehicles, it said it was possible some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed because of the poor quality of the inspections.

This comes after the Agency announced yesterday 4000 drivers who had their cars checked by Elia Sipaia and his company El's Auto Services in the Auckland suburb of East Tamaki will need to have them re-checked.

The latest suspension brings the total number of people affected by dodgy inspections to more than 20,000.
