For the past 25 years, houses along the street in Ponsonby have decorated their homes with elaborate light displays. Thousands flock to see them.

The road is part-way through a major upgrade, including the installation of two new cycle-paths, new footpaths, and resurfacing of the road.

The organiser of the Franklin Rd lights, Ross Thorby, said although the street is a mess right now, residents have been assured the works will not stop the light show.

Workers will be tidying up and leaving the street from late November, so the event can go ahead.

"We're going to have a whole month and a few days on either side to get ready for the street lights," Mr Thorby said.

"Hopefully they will all be back and we will all be up and running this year."
