Police are still searching for the person responsible for a shooting in Lower Hutt in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A 21-year-old was shot at from a passing vehicle in Stokes Valley.
He remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Police officers covered the small cul-de-sac at the end of Hanson Grove for most of yesterday as they undertook a scene examination.
By mid-afternoon they had left and residents gathered on the street to talk.
One resident RNZ spoke to, who did not want to be named, said he was shocked to hear of the shooting, and that this part of the suburb was usually quiet.
Three months ago, about 400m down the road, a man was shot in what the police described as a domestic incident.
The man spent two nights in hospital and had surgery to remove shotgun pellets from his chest.
Police said there was nothing to suggest the two events were connected, but their investigation was continuing.
