The 31-year-old is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson those involved were known to each other and police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the stabbing.

"This was a domestic incident...as far as we're aware it's one knife at this point.

The police said the offender was known to the victim.

Finally a man with stab wounds who turned up at the Wellesley Road medical centre in Napier was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a serious condition.
