Police believe a man struck by a car in the Auckland suburb of Takanini this evening was already dead.
They found the man on Popes Road, after reports a pedestrian had been hit shortly after 7pm.
But indications are the man was already dead when hit by the car. The driver called emergency services.
Police are asking for sightings of a man wearing a red-checked shirt and jeans, hitchhiking along Popes Road in Takanini, earlier this evening.
