IRD staff call off industrial action after reaching agreement

Staff at Inland Revenue have called off their industrial action after accepting a new employment agreement.

The agreement ends three months of industrial action at the department, the first time in 22 years.

But the Public Service Association, which represents workers, warned with a new round of bargaining due to begin in a few months, it will be addressing the outstanding issues.

PSA national secretary Erin Polaczuk said one in every four of its members at IRD was paid less than $48,000 a year and they deserved better.

Next year's bargaining round, which begins in the middle of next year, would focus on those issues that were still outstanding, she said.

The latest agreement does not include an across-the-board percentage pay increase to reflect the increased costs of living.
