Shots fired at a busy North Shore bar

5:54 pm on 26 August 2018

Police are investigating a shooting and robbery at a North Shore bar last night.

Just before 10pm two men entered The Good Home bar on Birkenhead Avenue with a gun and fired shots into the air.

The bar was busy at the time.

One person sustained a minor head injury after attempting to intervene.

The two offenders left the scene in a white Subaru, which was recovered a short distance away in Roseberry Avenue, Birkenhead.

A North Shore licensing trust, which owns the bar, said the thieves had done more than just take the pub's money.

The trust's deputy chairperson, Shane Prince, said about 40 people were in the bar when gunshots were fired and it was the second time this year the bar had been robbed.

"The Birkenhead Licensing Trust distributes approximately 1.5 to 1.6 million a year to the community, to all different kinds of groups who require funding, that's the trustee's strong view at the moment, look you didn't actually just rob a bar last night, you robbed a community."

They were still assessing how much money was taken, Mr Prince said.

Police said CCTV footage was being examined and they were speaking to witnesses.
