Gang leaders help police investigate Whanganui shooting

Senior gang leaders are helping police investigate a fatal shooting in Whanganui.

A 27-year-old man was killed in a gang-related shooting in the Whanganui suburb of Castlecliff on Tuesday morning.

Police said senior gang members were collaboratively working with them to help them identify the shooter.

They said a post mortem had been completed and the man's body had been returned to his whanau.

Extra police officers are arriving in Whanganui to help with the investigation.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to call them, or Crimestoppers, anonymously.
