Thousands of people have reported feeling the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that struck central New Zealand this afternoon.
The quake was centred 20 kilometres east of Nelson at a depth of 73 kilometres.
It was felt from Auckland to Christchurch, but was felt most strongly In Nelson, Marlborough and Wellington.
Reports are describing it as a short rolling quake, with GeoNet describing it as moderate.
