The World Health Organisation has declared the swine flu pandemic over, but New Zealand health authorities are warning it is not the case in this country.
The WHO says the virus has largely run its course and the world is now moving into the post-pandemic period.
The Ministry of Health says significant outbreaks are still happening in some parts of the country, with high numbers of people off work and school.
The Deputy Director of Public Health, Darren Hunt, says there are higher levels of hospitalisation in areas not severely affected last year.
So far, more than 300 people have been admitted to hospital this year with confirmed swine flu, with four confirmed deaths.
